Just watched the “Ip Man” movie last night at the Asian Film Festival. For those who have not seen this movie, it is not a film on the philosophy and applications of Wing Chun Gung Fu. Rather, it is the story of one segment of Ip Man’s remarkable life in Foshan, China. Those who are familiar with Ip Man’s biography will notice the extreme liberties taken with the events during these years, but the movie tells a good story and the fighting sequences (by Sammo Hung) are dynamic and exciting, but is also a stretch from wing chun. All in all, a very entertaining movie showing an important segment in Ip Man’s development from martial arts practitioner to teacher.
